Cats'n Dogs 2 ~Toby the cat grooms Anko the dog~ (Movie)

I posted the pictures of Toby the cat grooming Anko here before.

Last night I got it in a movie format!
It was after bed time and again, it's very dark. But you can still see how enthusiastically Toby grooms Anko and Anko enjoys it.
So here we go.

Millaii is sleepy (Movie)

Why don't you relax a little, Millaii. You look tense!

Mission Complete! One down. Another one to go

So I had put it back on her just before we left for the clinic.

WHY again......?
Millaii didn't understand.
She looked confused.
Anko teased her as she passed Millaii.
"Hey, out of my way, Cone Head"

Hope it will be quick.

But after all she was used to the cone.
She skillfully managed to nap during the 20-mins ride.

Inside the lobby of the clinic, Millaii studied other patients worriedly.
Luckily there wasn't many people (animals) waiting.

One of the workers spoke to Millaii.
She sounded very nice and friendly, and said "Don't worry it's going to be just fine!"
All of a sudden, Millaii looked at ease and sat down on the floor.

Within 5 mins, our names were called.
We went into one of the examination rooms, and I was asked to lift up her front body so she would stand on her rear feet.
Then  the doctor very quickly cut her staples and got them out. She said "Looks good! Done!"
Within 10 seconds, it was over.

YEAH! This it it, Millaii!

However the doctor said to leave the cone collar on for one more day, then to take it off.
Wow, that's being very cautious.
I said "Sure!" but I knew it was going to come off as soon as we got in the car.
Millaii was again totally silent for the whole time we were there.

We left the clinic smiling to each other.

BIG SMILE
This is the best smile I have seen on Millaii's face ever!
Let's go home.

This is what her incision looks like after the staple removal.
A little red but really clean and healed.

Feels like we had the longest 2 weeks but it was so worth it.
Millaii will never go into heat or have babies.
She can just worry about her own happiness.

Yeah! Way to go, girl!

NOW.....YOU'RE NEXT!

STAPLES OUT tomorrow!

Finally, Millaii will get her staples removed tomorrow.

She would have had her Elizabeth collar taken off too, but...it's been off for a few days now....
I think I will put it back on her before we go to the clinic and pretend she's never taken it off. See how it goes.
I'm just hoping she will not act like it's driving her crazy as if .....she has just put it back on.

Last night while I was working on the computer, Millaii came and sat next to me and kept me company.
I felt very warm inside. I asked my 5-year-old boy to take a picture of us. So here it is.

She looks like she is smiling, doesn't she?
I love this picture although I'm in a weary robe.

After that Millaii will be in perfect shape and new-home-ready!

This is weird....

I have noticed something interesting.

Sometimes, when we com home from driving somewhere, like my kids' school to drop them off in the morning, the dogs remain in the car in the garage.

The dogs are inside. Silent

I get out thinking the dogs will follow, leaving the doors open - well, sometimes it doesn't happen and they decide to stay in the car.
Why?
I have no idea.
I know it doesn't happen when they are hungry. They stalk me everywhere until they get a treat or something.
I'm guessing maybe they remain in the car because it's warm and quiet.
They have spent quite a lot of time in the car because I take them to many places with me, and a lot of times they have to wait for me in the car while I shop.
Maybe they feel comfortable in the car now. It is most of the time much quieter in the car than it is in the house with the kids, TV and games....
Maybe they want to rest in a cozy place for a while....after all dogs are den animals. Other than that, I have no idea why they do this. It's a mystery.

When they stay in the car, always the three of them together.
Then after 10-15 mins, Ginger comes out first, then Millaii and Anko follow.

Today Millaii will drive and Anko will navigate.
Ginger and I will sit back and relax in the rear seat.
Buckle up!

Today during the walk we saw a broken sprinkler and quite a lot of water was springing out of a broken nozzle.
Our water girl Anko stared at it for a few seconds.

Now, what do you think it is?
I want everybody's opinion.

Let me just study it for a second.

Then,

ATTACK!!

Mmmmm~ That was good (wet'n happy)

Good ordinary days...

When I cook in the kitchen, the dogs almost always wait at the same locations.

Anko is right at my feet.
She doesn't hesitate to tell me she is hungry. From the bottom, she looks straight up at me and BEG.

Ginger is always somewhere between Anko and Millaii. She wants to come closer to me (food) but she knows if she gets too close she will get scolded, so she is keeping a modest distance from the chef.

Millaii is far back on the carpet. She knows if she waits a little longer the food will come.
She sits back and relaxes until that time comes. (I know she is very excited inside though)

Once the food is ready, the three of them jump up with joy, circle around me many times, then sit when I say "SIT!!!!" with very watery eyes staring straight at the bowls, 3 tails wagging like crazy.

One of the sights I love the most.

This is breakfast. Done in about 15 seconds

After breakfast we took a walk. We always see a few cats during walks.
Millaii's ears and neck stand straight up when she locates a cat. Just like in this picture. Funny.
Anko wimps. Ginger quietly focuses on it.

Millaii's tail is disproportionately long.
This is I think very German Shepherd like...only less hairy.

A polka-dotted collared girl sleeps on a polka-dotted pillow.
Wait a minute...Do I like polka dots....?

Cone to Dot

Tada~

New collar!
Do I still look sad? (Yes)

I always thought Millaii was beautiful.
But she is in such ordinary colors, short-hair, medium-size....doesn't particularly have anything flashy.
She is quiet so can easily go unnoticed.
I wanted to add a little color to make her look a little more...pop.

So....

Polka-dots!

Green!!

What do you think?

I think it's great.
She doesn't know how cute she looks. She never did.
Nobody was around to tell her that.
I have been trying to tell her but she is still not confident.

Millaii, you look great! Smile!
I am....

Is that a cat over there...?

Hope the kitties will notice me today...

Do you mind, Ginger, you're distracting me.

Today, a very nice family came to meet Millaii.
Millaii wasn't scared and seemed very relaxed around them.
Surprisingly, they said their daughter was the one who had seen Millaii's ad and liked her.
I always thought Millaii was a "guy's" dog. I didn't think she would be very appealing to girls. So it was a very nice surprise.

Anko has inherited Millaii's harness. Looking tall...

But it itches here a little bit

Love your eyes, Polka-dot girl.

What do you feed your dog??

I am always very curious what people feed their dogs, and more importantly, how much food?

I ask questions and I have general ideas about what kind of food majority of people use  - pet food - dog chow, cans and treats.
But how much of them?
It's very vague.
Someone says he feeds his dog once a day. One and a half cups of canned food mixed with a little bit of dog chow.
I look at his German Shepherd/boxer mix boy, and he is fat.
How can he be fat when he eats only once a day, and such small portions? Can his measurements be right? Does he give the dog lots of treats throughout a day?

Thing is, I cannot say to the owner "Oh, really? That little? Then why is he fat?".

I'm sure there is a reason for it when a dog (or person) is fat or skinny. It's just, it's a hard topic to discuss, sometimes (no always).

I see healthy and beautifully fit looking dogs at the beach. I want to run to their owners and ask them what they feed their dogs. But those owners are usually very engaged in the activities with their dogs, I don't want to interrupt.

Enough of my babbling.
I thought I would show what I feed my dogs here. And where I buy the food - not that anybody has asked, but just for my record keeping....

I buy all my pet food and treats at Costco. The most economical place to buy almost anything (if you can buy in bulk) and I trust the quality of their products in general.

BREAKFAST

DOG CHOW
I serve 1-cup of this to everybody for breakfast. This bag lasted about a month among 3 dogs.

DINNER

Kirkland Chicken & Lamb Variety 24 Cans ($16.99)
This is for the rescues. 1 can is good for 2 diners (4 servings)
Meaning this package can serve 96 bowls (for 2 dogs, lasts 48 days)

I make dinner separately for Ginger and the Rescues. As I basically do not totally trust pet food because of the processing and preservatives, I use chicken for Ginger's dinner, no seasoning. just cook it in the pan.

For the rescues, I have had to use pet food to be cost effective, as well as I don't want to spoil them with steaks for they will go to their new and permanent homes, and they may only use pet food.

<Ginger's Dinner>

Chicken Thigh with skin & bone (2pcs)

Save fat for the rescue dogs

Take bones out. Cut it up. Done!

<Rescue Dogs' Dinner>
~For 2 dogs~

Add 1/2 can of dog food (for 2 dogs) to the saved fat

Mix well

Separate into 2 bowls

Add 1/2 cup of dog chow to each bowl and mix well

Bon Appetit!

The rescue dog dinner basically consists of dry & wet pet food but because of the chicken fat from Ginger's dinner, it smells GOOD!
I bet it tastes great too.
To make this dinner for the 3 of them, it usually takes me about 30 mins. It gets consumed in less than 20 seconds.

I always wonder if this is too small (or too much).
The portion-wise it doesn't look a lot, but calorie-wise, I'm thinking it should be enough.
The dogs look healthy. None of them are losing weight. Ginger has been steady at around 45 lbs for months.

With this menu, the monthly cost for food for 3 dogs will be approximately:

$23 (dry food)
$10 (cans)
$20 (Ginger's chicken)

= $ 53

On top of this, I give them treats between breakfast and dinner;

.....etc.

Usually I give each of them 2 cookies and 3 slices of jerky. I don't give them human snacks or food as I worry about seasonings and preservatives, except for occasional pizza crust and pancake leftovers.

So including the treats, the grand total will be $80~$100/month.  Shouldn't be no more than $100.

That's not bad. Not bad at all.
If a family of four eats at a restaurant, it will easily go above $50.
Eat at home instead of eating at a restaurant twice a month, we get to enjoy having 3 dogs as our family!

Of course there are other expenses too - basics like collars, leashes, toys....flea medication, vaccination shots...what if they get sick?

But still, anybody should be able to easily afford one dog. A little love and attention - you get to keep a forever friend for the cost of one meal at a restaurant!

I don't understand people give up their pet saying "we can't afford her any more".
Don't you eat at McDonald's anymore either?

Our pets deserve far more respect than that.
Who else will love you with the same devotion and admiration as ever before when you go broke?
Obviously and definitely not your human partners.

Shhhhhh....Collar Off

Today I took Millaii's collar off while we played outside, for the first time since her surgery!

Welcome back, Millaii!!!

You look great!

You can look a little happier if you like

Collar or no collar - the most favorite place

Millaii bosses around. Grooming Anko for a starter

It was great to see her shape again.
Millaii looked a little confused at first. She had gotten used to wearing the cone, maybe she thought it would be like that forever.

Then she went right off to the cat observatory.  The same old cat family, Millaii never gets tired of them.
After watching the cats for a long while, Millaii started grooming Anko.
It looked like Millaii wanted to remind Anko that she was still the boss.
I'm guessing Millaii probably raised Anko at their old home, which makes Millaii Anko's adoptive mother!
No wonder Millaii acts so bossy around Anko all the time.

I have been walking the three for the last 4 days or so. Millaii is doing great.
I think she is almost back in perfect shape. She looks strong and well.

After the walk I put the cone back on her. I was worried at first if she would let me put it back on her because it's such an annoyance. But amazingly, she did. She let me put it back on her head without giving me a hassle.
I was so thankful for her trust in me.

I take care of her.
In the meantime, I train her.
I try to train her so she can be a good dog so her new owner will have it easy and won't have problems with her.
Sometimes I yell at her or get impatient and even act mean to her.
Every time I lose my temper with her, I feel sorry afterwards.

This is a dog who had been neglected for 2 years. This is the dogs who was chained to the kennel and wasn't given a chance to enjoy living with people - which must be the ultimate joy of all dogs. This is the dog who had been abandoned by her owner. She was going to be sent to the pound. Millaii would have been killed after 3 days if it had happened.

Yet, she trusts me.
I look her in the eye again and see the trust, and also see deep sorrow.
The cone? No, it's deeper. Forever love? Yes that must be it.

Another week and she can kiss the cone good-bye!

Can't wait, can we, Millaii??

I have newly posted an ad of Millaii on craigslist
